THINK THAT THE CAR IS VERY COMPETITIVE, AT THE LEVEL OF THE RENAULT

Fernando Alonso saw the McLaren far better of which he thought

With an accompanying smile as spent Fernando Alonso the first day of work with its new equipment. And it is not for less. The sensations of the Spanish pilot to the controls of the McLaren in the circuit of Sherry were than satisfactory more. Without doubt, better of which it hoped after to have been witness of rambling of escudería of the bullets silverplated during all the season 2006, in which the Asturian one conquered its second world-wide title. Alonso has not commentd out any official, but in boxes yes that has spoken and shown to a great satisfaction his more close friends.

It compares it in benefits with the Renault

Although still it is necessary to polish some details and to make certain improvements, Alonso thinks at least that its McLaren is very competitive, at the level of the single-seaters of Renault in which at speed and benefits it talks about. Sensations that take to him to think that in 2007 it could be fighting of you to you by the title of champion of the world with the Renault, Ferrari and company.

IT CONFRONTS LIKE "A CHALLENGE" TO FIGHT BY The VICTORY WITH McLAREN

Fernando Alonso: "the objective is to gain the title, is no another one"

Fernando Alonso with its new colors

Fernando Alonso, who will make debut the next season like pilot of McLaren-Mercedes, is "optimistic" before this new challenge and showed that its new equipment "has a good project of future". The Asturian one, 25 years and winner of the World-wide one of Formula 1 in 2005 and 2006 with Renault, assured that it has "very good sensations until the moment".

"This one is for me a new challenge, a new step", indicated the Asturian champion, that Lewis Hamilton appeared next to his companion, of 22 years and winner of last championship GP2, and to both probadores of the equipment, the Pedro Spanish of the Rose and the Briton Gary Paffett. "I am proud and I am optimistic. I am anxious to fight to be above ", pointed Alonso.

    A new challenge

In any case, Alonso made clear that its objective is "to gain the World-wide one". To do it with a new equipment is, in addition, "a challenge". "All the data that we have of the tunnel of the wind and the motor are positive and give foot to the optimism. If everything what the car is written in the paper reproduces it in the track, will be a good car, able to gain races ", Fernando said.

"It is clear that I need a time adaptation al new car perhaps and al new equipment and these two months of test is not sufficient, but the championship is very long and the objective is not other that to gain the World-wide one, is no another one", explained the champion. "After gaining two World-wide ones followed and to unite to me to this so good equipment and with as much potential, not to think about gaining the World-wide one it would be an error. And it is necessary to try it ", aimed.

    New image

The Asturian pilot, only Spanish and the youngest pilot in gaining a World-wide one of Formula 1, appeared in Valencia with his new image, with the much more short hair, which explained, between laughter, like a personal decision and "not of McLaren".

About the problems that escudería underwent during the last years, Alonso needed that "that was McLaren: now it is Vodafone-McLaren Mercedes. A new full field equipment ". "I do not know if by all the new patrocinadores or all the people that are, but the atmosphere is wonderful and everybody is optimistic and has desire of which the season begins", indicated the Asturian one.

"We want that it is the year of the revolution and everybody wants to win. I have contributed a little optimism, since in his car now they have the champion of the world of the last year. The engineers and the mechanics put the rest ", indicated Alonso, that with his arrival he brings number 1 to the single-seater of McLaren.

    Differences with Renault

About the differences between this one and their previous equipment, Renault, Alonso commented that that one was the asked for question more "in all the tables". "It is difficult to explain and to compare. And he would not be right either ", needed. "I believe that the way to work the cars is similar. There are small things that differentiate to an equipment from others. What there is to think is in removing the maximum from our car. There are things that to change from the Sherry test (the past 15 of December, when it received the permission of Renault to prove, without publicity, a car of its new equipment). I believe that there are mejorables things easily ", said.

"the cars are always different. The R24 and the R25 (of Renault) were different. And here it happens the same. You must adapt it a little to your style and you must yourself adapt in the style of the car. As I said, the tires are the greatest change. Perhaps I have felt plus the change of the tires that the change of Renault to McLaren ", thought.

Alonso did not scrimp praises to its new escudería. "there are no fissures in the McLaren project. Everything is calculated, everything well is organized and have desire and an ambition to win quite new for me ", said.

Fernando Alonso confessed itself in the newspaper ' Daily Mail'. The bichampion of the world opened the reasons of his draftee by McLaren after two years filled with successes in Renault. The Asturian pilot discovered unknown aspects of his childhood and praised to his new equipment. In this extensive granted interview to one of average the most prestigious ones of the United Kingdom, he wanted to end many topics as much on his personality inside as outside the circuits.

What means to be in an equipment like McLaren-Mercedes?

I feel very lucky to be in McLaren. If outside soccer player, would want to play for Real Madrid, the equipment that support and that master. Leading for McLaren is like playing in Real Madrid.

    Why it left Renault?

It needed a new challenge, and it needed a new motivation in my race, and my life.

But it could continue gaining titles with Renault...

In Renault already he was a little tired. It could not obtain to more things alli. It had gained two titles, knew the car perfectly, to the people who worked with me. To follow meant there to continue making the same things again. It was like eating the same plate of paella every night. It needed to again have the sensation of which I am young, that I am 25 years old. Now I feel like young person again.

What deludes to him of McLaren?

The fact to be in a new company, a new equipment, with the new people and a new car motivates to me. I have luck because passage of a great equipment to another great equipment. I made this decision in 2005, when it did not know if it were going to have a good car in McLaren in 2007. Now I know that we have a good car.

It preferred to gain a third title with another equipment that to do it with Renault?

Until my grandmother it will understand the challenge to try to gain a third world-wide title changing of equipment. Desire to gain the third title, because to gain one it can suppose that I had the luck to have the best in a while certain car. To gain two already is a great profit, but to reach three causes that it remembers to you like one of the great ones. All the names of great pilots who we remembered took three titles. If they ask to me what is more important, if to gain three titles with Renault or three titles with two different equipment, the answer is easy.

They have to do its ídolos of the childhood with pilots who comprised of the McLaren equipment?

When he was a boy in Oviedo, my heroes were pilots as Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna and both were pilots of escudería McLaren. In fact, he played with the cars of the toy of McLaren, also. Therefore, to be a conductor of McLaren now really is a dream made reality.

How it is seen like pilot at the moment?

I am myself better than the last season. Although seventh east had left year, I am seen better. In addition, as person I am better, more relaxed. When she was 23 years old always was exposed people, trying to prove that she had talent to be champion. I have already obtained it and I do not have to demonstrate nothing to nobody. But I do not relax in my profession because Formula 1 is a sport of enormous tension from January to October, but attempt to disconnect the possible maximum. Between race and race attempt to be most relaxed possible and to dedicate me to my ' hobbies'.

How one felt when it proved the McLaren in Sherry for the first time?

The first time which I piloted the McLaren in the month of December of the last year not I felt too comfortable. The car lead me more to me than I drived the car. Now I feel very comfortable in the car, happy and am working very to taste yet the equipment. They are already all in my same wave. Mécánicos engineers, with whom are of the equipment I want to know them well. I like to have interaction with much people. Tonight, for example, I will arrive at my hotel and I will put myself to speak with the recepcionista.

Does not see dangerous go away of an equipment champion to whom he comes from a crisis?

In the F1 everything changes year to year. No equipment assures to you that you are going to win, so it is a risk of following like changing of equipment. Everything is a risk in Formula 1.

What thinks of their teammate Lewis Hamilton?

I believe that it is a luck to have to him like teammate. He is young and it has much talent and it can bring new ideas to the equipment. When you have been seven years in Formula 1 as it happens to me to me, you go by your way, so it will bring new air to the equipment, to all those that we are it jeopardize with this equipment and things of him can be learned. With Lewis all we will feel like more young people. I create sincerely that I do not have anything to teach to him. I have seen him pilot and knows very well what does. He is very fast, it has talent and I believe that it will get to be a great star of this sport.

That it says to us of its new ' look' with shaved hair?

I thought about cutting it during the last season, but I stopped myself to think it and I said myself, to see if it is going to give bad luck at the moment to you. So I hoped to that the championship finished.

WHEN YOU ARE IN HIGHEST, Or DAS The STATURE Or NOT IT DAS", IT ASSURES

Jacques Villeneuve: "Fisichella was not to the height of Alonso"The Canadian pilot Jacques Villeneuve considers that the Italian Giancar it Fisichella "he was not to the height of Fernando Alonso", his companion the two last seasons in Renault, and announced that he could run in the NASCAR in 2008. Villeneuve, that was world-wide champion of Formula 1 in 1997, questioned the yield of Fisichella during the two last seasons in the French equipment, in which the Italian gained two victories as opposed to fourteen of Alonso.

On declarations to one radio of Montreal, Villeneuve insisted on Fisichella: "it was not to the height of Alonso, that is everything. Thus it is the life ". "When you are in highest, because Formula 1 is the maximum in sport motoring, or it give to the stature or not the DAS. Thus they are the things. One is not intentions, but of facts ", it added.

As far as his future in the competition, Jacques still continues thinking about some of the American categories: "we are working to compete in the NASCAR in 2008, beginning to prepare this year to us. You must participate in championships smaller and different circuits to be accepted in the NASCAR ".

Following intensive track testing at Valencia, Barcelona, Jerez and Bahrain, the BMW Sauber F1.07 is now set for its first race of the year.

The BMW Sauber F1 Team exceeded expectations in its debut season to finish fifth in the constructors’ world championship in 2006.

The team’s aim for 2007 is to record more podium finishes on merit and further reduce the distance to the top of the constructors’ standings.

    Last
year, the gap between fifth place and fourth alone was 50 points.

Race drivers Nick Heidfeld (29) and Robert Kubica (22) will be joined at the circuit on Friday mornings by test and reserve driver Sebastian Vettel (19). On the Friday, the teams can now each make use of two 90-minute testing sessions, with a maximum of two cars per team allowed on track per session. In all, each team has eight sets of tyres at their disposal on the Friday (four of each specification), which must then be handed back. On the Saturday each driver has ten new sets (five of each specification) for the remainder of the weekend. The teams can change engines once again ahead of Saturday practice, with maximum engine speed limited to 19,000 rpm in 2007. The engines have to last for two race weekends, as before.

In the race itself, the teams have to use both specifications of the new standard Bridgestone Potenza tyres. The different specifications will be given markings to allow the spectators to see which tyres each team is running at any time. This strategic challenge adds a further unknown to the mix in the run-up to a season which seems set to provide unprecedented levels of excitement on the back of numerous changes to personnel and equipment.

    NICK HEIDFELD
“Australia is my favourite country on the Formula One calendar to travel to. I flew straight out there with my family from the test in Bahrain to have a look at a few things and get used to the time zone and climate. The Albert Park circuit is nice to drive, but also a demanding one for the drivers. Because it isn’t a permanent race track, there isn’t much grip at the start of the weekend. So it will help that the cars will spend more time on the track on the Friday, as extra rubber will quickly be laid down on the asphalt. We were pretty quick in testing, but unfortunately not that reliable, so for us the most important thing in the first race of the season will be to get to the finish.”

    ROBERT KUBICA
“Albert Park is one of my favourite tracks, as it is partly a street circuit. There are also a few run-off areas, and that makes it slightly easier. There isn’t much grip, but it is quite bumpy. Conditions improve enormously over the course of the weekend. You have to make changes to the car and understand how it is going to react. I like the circuit a lot, it’s a challenge. Tight corners and full-throttle sections follow one after another.”

    SEBASTIAN VETTEL
“I’ve never been to Australia and I’m very much looking forward to being in Melbourne with the team and getting out on the track. The circuit certainly looks interesting. The beginning of the season is extremely important – a lot of things are easier if you get off to a good start. We’ve shown in testing that we definitely have potential, but we’ve also had one or two difficulties. Like the team as a whole, I’m just pleased that it’s finally time to go racing.”

    MARIO THEISSEN, BMW MOTORSPORT DIRECTOR
“Last year we put in a very good performance in Albert Park, and it would be nice if we had something to celebrate once again on Sunday evening. As ever, it is difficult to make predictions. Our rivals have been generous with praise at times, but we also had a few problems in testing. As always, it is a race against time to get the car ready for the first race of the season.

We are pleased to see that Melbourne is once again the first race on the calendar in 2007. The race this year will take place two weeks earlier than in 2006, i.e. in late summer rather than autumn. The city will be hungrier for the grand prix again, as this time round it has not just played host to a Common¬wealth Games.”

    WILLY RAMPF, TECHNICAL DIRECTOR
“The tension ahead of the first race of the season is always particularly high, of course, because you’re waiting to find out how you shape up against your rivals. The last test in Bahrain showed that the performance of the F1.07 meets our expectations, but we’ll still only be able to make a reliable assessment of our progress once we get to Melbourne. Added to which, we will have one or two new parts on the F1.07 in Australia, which we hadn’t introduced in the last test. I have to admit that my sense of anticipation is even greater than usual.

Melbourne is a stop-start kind of circuit with high levels of downforce – and that places the brakes under serious loads. We will therefore focus heavily on braking stability when it comes to car set-up. Another typical feature of Albert Park is that the track is still fairly dirty on the Friday and grip only really improves after a significant number of laps.”

No Michael Schumacher. A laid-back Kimi Raikkonen in bright red. Fernando Alonso and Ron Dennis together. Add to that F1 cars raising awareness of environmental issues, an American still on the starting grid and, of course, new rules.

This year's Formula One season, which begins March 18 in Melbourne, Australia, should be a lot different than the season that ended last October in Brazil when Alonso won his second straight title and Schumacher said goodbye with his record seven titles.

Alonso has won the Formula One title the last two years for Renault, who also won the team championship. Now the Spaniard takes the prestigious No. 1, signifying him as champion, to McLaren.

"I do want to win more world titles, this is my aim during my career. To win one may have meant you had the best car that year, to win two I feel is a great achievement," he said on the team Web site this week. "But to win another, all the big names in the sport and the drivers we remember won three or more world titles."

There's a very short list of three-time champions in Formula One: Jack Brabham, Niki Lauda, Nelson Piquet, Ayrton Senna, Jackie Stewart, Juan Manuel Fangio, Alain Prost and, of course, Schumacher.

Alonso has a string of "youngest" records already _ youngest to gain a pole position, win a Grand Prix and take one and two titles _ and hopes to become a three-time winner shortly after turning 26 in July.

After years with the flamboyant Flavio Briatore as mentor and team boss, Alonso now finds himself with a different-style boss _ McLaren's controlled and analytical Ron Dennis, who is anxious to return to the top.

Dennis's McLaren team has not won a team title since 1998 and a driver's championship since 1999 with Mika Hakkinen. Raikkonen came close in 2003 and 2005, but with Alonso coming to the team it was inevitable he would be driving elsewhere in 2007.

When Schumacher finally quit, Raikkonen moved to Ferrari.

Seeing the usually reserved Raikkonen _ nicknamed "The Iceman" _ in loud Ferrari red seems strange. But he was ready for a change _ he was winless in 2006 after gaining seven victories, equal to Alonso, in 2005.

This could be the year of the return of Ferrari, which last won anything significant in 2004. Raikkonen and Felipe Massa have been consistently at the top of testing during the last two months, including last week's final test in Bahrain, site of the third race of the season.

Most of the drivers were out for that test, and Ferrari was first all three days with Massa _ who played the role of good teammate behind Schumacher the last two years and won two races. Ferrari has said it will allow open competition between its two drivers this season.

Alonso's new teammate is Lewis Hamilton, a 21-year-old Englishman who is the sport's first black driver. He has won the GP2 and F3 championship the last two years and took the seat that opened when Juan Pablo Montoya left for NASCAR.

Alonso's former Renault team has a new Finn, Heikki Kovalainen, and veteran Giancarlo Fisichella, who won the second race of the 2006 season.

Honda has Jenson Button looking for his second victory after it took 113 for his first. It also will sport a new car design that will replace advertising and sponsor logos with an image of the Earth to "raise awareness of environmental issues facing the planet"

Toyota, with Schumacher's brother Ralf still around; Williams, seeking a comeback with a different Toyota engine, and BMW-Sauber will be looking to take points away from the top three.

Red Bull, with David Coulthard and Mark Webber, could surprise. Its second team, Toro Rosso, has American Scott Speed in his second year.

In the rear are the two teams that trailed last year: Japan's Super Aguri, which put off the unveiling of this year's new car until two days before practice in Australia, and Spyker, which was Midland last year.

Although there are no new teams on the grid and no new races, one has returned and two are gone. The Belgian Grand Prix comes back after financial difficulties. The European Grand Prix, held in Germany during the Schumacher years, and the San Marino Grand Prix, at Imola, Italy, have been dropped.

Imola hopes to return to the calendar after track improvements, but Saudi Arabia has announced a race in 2009 and Singapore has expressed interest in running one.

There will be plenty of new rules, from practice sessions to tires.

The two free practice sessions on Fridays of race weekends will be extended from 60 to 90 minutes, and teams will be allowed to use only two cars in each of the sessions. Three were allowed last season.

Bridgestone will supply all tires beginning in 2007, after Michelin withdrew at the end of last season.

THE FERRARI PILOT DID NOT HAVE RIVAL IN THE GREAT PRIZE OF AUSTRALIA

Raikkonen imposes its law in front of Alonso and HamiltonAGENCIES. Melbourne

    · Thus we lived the Great Prize on Australia

Kimi Raikkonen both gained a easy victory in the Great Prize of Australia in front of pilots of McLaren, Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton, that formed podio but young in the history of Formula 1. The debut of the Finn in Ferrari could not be more lucky: it obtained ' polé, it marked the fast return in the race and won.

Raikkonen only yielded the leadership in six of the 58 returns of the race, four to Hamilton and two to Alonso, and agreeing with its shutdowns to refuel and to change tires. In any case, its leadership never was in danger, since from the exit it accumulated one more an advantage than sufficient.

Alonso was conscious of the superiority of the Ferrari and knew that its only opportunity was that they broke, something that feared in escudería Italian after the problems that Massa in the classification with the change had. The technicians of Maranello chose to change to the motor of Brazilian, that he had to leave from the last place, from that overcame to sixth.

    Bad exit
Alonso also trusted making one of its famous flashing exits to give the return to the prognoses, but at the time of the truth it happened all the opposite: it could not not only advance to Raikkonen, but that in addition was surpassed by Heidfeld and Hamilton, with which it confronted the first third of the test in fourth position.

The world-wide bichampion had to hope to the shutdowns in boxes to recover positions; in first he surpassed to Heidfeld and in the second a Hamilton, although never he was at readiness to press to Raikkonen. The accident in which they were involved
the Scot David Coulthard and the Austrian Alex Wurz to ten returns of the end seeded doubts by the possible entrance of the security car, that had given another air to the race, but in the end it did not take place.

Of the endiablado rate imposed by Raikkonen in this first race of the World-wide one of Formula 1 it gives to sample the fact that its fast return was a second inferior one to the one of Fernando Alonso, who marked second.

Face and cross for Hamilton and Kovalainen
The third position was for the newcomer Lewis Hamilton, who made an admirable race and without errors and that osadíá included ' to surpass to its head of rows in the first curve. The Briton occurred the luxury to lead the test, an historical fact, and although in the end stop' lowered to the third position after being surpassed by Alonso in the last ' pit, celebrated it like a victory.

The opposite pole was Heikki Kovalainen, that has occupied the position of Fernando Alonso in Renault and to which Flavio Briatore sees like a future champion, who finished tenth after carrying out several ' excursiones' outside the track. "For being my debut I have very few things that to remember and if many to forget", commented the Finn.

BMW Sauber demonstrated in this first race all good and the bad one that it had aimed in the preseason. The good thing, the rate of which made finery Nick Heidfeld and Robert Kubica in first half of the race; the bad thing, the nth breakage of the gear box in the car of the Pole, who left when he was fifth.

    Fiasco in Sling
Vista the superiority of Ferrari, the only consolation for Alonso and Hamilton is that they have located to escudería Vodafone McLaren Mercedes in the first place of the classification of constructors.

The cross of the currency was, without a doubt, for the Sling. Rubens Barrichello finished eleventh and little agreed Jenson Button, fifteenth, positions to the power of the Japanese square, whose single-seaters shine a spectacular decoration now ' ecológicá (an Earth map). Something better - but it went to him not much to the Toyota, that finished eighth and ninth.

WHITMARSH WAS SATISFIED WITH THE RESULTS WITH AUSTRALIA

McLaren is marked as it puts to progress a pair of tenth by raceThe McLaren equipment, to which Fernando Alonso belongs, wants to improve two tenth of second by race, although his president, Martin Whitmarsh, occurs by satisfied with the results with the Great Prize of Australia. Whitnmarsh declared optimist in relation to the options of McLaren to dispute the title to Ferrari in spite of the superiority that exhibited Kimi Raikkonen in Melbourne, where surpassed in more of a second to Fernando Alonso in the fastest returns of both. "the first impression in the McLaren equipment is positive", affirmed Whitmarsh. "We think that we have made a good beginning and in the course of the season we hoped to progress from one to two tenth by race", needed in Web ' F1-live.com'.

For escudería British it supposes a great challenge, because Ferrari is an equipment very hard and organized very well. "they are not going away to be there, we will have to still work and to progress more express more than they, but we assumed this challenge. Our motivation is the greater one in many years and we want to fight itself both by titles ", asserted Whitnmarsh. For the president of McLaren it will be a fight opened between the MP4/22 and the F2007. "We are going to try to improve our yield the possible maximum. If Ferrari talks back and can progress at the same speed that we or even more, will be hard. If they do not do it, the advantage will be ours ", concluded.
